Description

This linen postcard features a reproduction of a head and shoulders photograph of President-elect Abraham Lincoln taken of him on January 13, 1861, in Springfield, Illinois. He is facing toward the viewer's right with a a small part of a green-colored drap behind him. Printed in the lower margin are Lincoln's birth and death years, a quotation regarding his mother, a facsimile signature, and a note stating that H. W. Fay, custodian of Lincoln's Tomb, owned the original negative used in the making of the postcard. The postcard reverse is divided. "Historic Lincoln Series No. 48" is printed at the top of the left side. The number 5435 is printed along the top edge near the stamp placement block.
