Description

This postcard features a head and shoulders portrait of Abraham Lincoln done after a photograph taken of him in February of 1857. The photograph by Alexander Hesler was known as the "messy hair" photograph of Lincoln. However, Masters flipped the image and smoothed out the hair so that it didn't appear as "messy" for the prints he published. The postcard portrait appears to be in an oval window mat with the caption printed in the margin below. The caption dates the Master's image as July 4, 1856 which is impossible because the photograph wasn't taken until 1857. The postcard reverse is divided.
