Description
This tinted postcard features the David Wills house in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, where President Lincoln put the finishing touches on the speech he would be giving for the dedication of the new National Cemetery. David Wills was a prominent attorney living in Gettysburg and who was tasked with designing the National Cemetery. Wills invited President Lincoln to speak at the dedication ceremony on November 19, 1863. Wills along with two others are all depicted standing on the steps. A woman and two children are shown about to turn the corner of the house. A horse and buggy are depicted stopped by the front door. The whole image is surrounded by a white border with the caption printed in the top and bottom margins. The postcard reverse is divided.
