This colored postcard features a reproduction of a painting of a young, beardless Abraham Lincoln splitting rails. He is depicted holding a broad-axe in his hands while his right foot rests on the log. A log cabin is in the background. A circular-cut inset In the top left corner of the image shows a broad-axe owned by Lincoln. Below the main image is an ox-yoke made by Lincoln in the possession of the University of Illinois, Champaign. The postcard reverse is divided. Narrative text is printed on the left side.
