This postcard is a photograph of the sculpture group "The Council of War" by sculptor John Rogers. President Abraham Lincoln is depicted seated and looking at a map. General Ulysses S. Grant is shown standing to President Lincoln's right and pointing at something on the map. Secretary of War Edwin M. Stanton is depicted standing behind the president's chair cleaning his glasses.
