Description
This colored postcard features the Lincoln Memorial statue with an eagle above it, a laurel wreath hanging on the corner and a patriotic shield and other symbols below the image in the center. The quotation "If God had not loved the common people, He would not have made so many of them" is divided into four lines on each side of the center image. The source of this quotation being attributed to President Lincoln is a reminiscence of John Hay, one of the presiden'ts private secretaries. The postcard reverse is divided. "Series No. 1222 Lincoln Birthday 6 Designs" is printed along the left edge. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
