Description

This postcard compares the texts of a letter written by President Abraham Lincoln to Mrs. Bixby who purportedly had lost five sons in the United States Civil War and a letter written by Kaiser Wilhelm to Frau Meter who had purportedly lost nine sons during World War I. President Lincoln's letter, titled World Democracy, expresses his sincere condolences to the widow whereas the Kaiser's letter, titled World Autocracy, acknowledges the Frau's loss by enclosing a framed and autographed photograph of himself.
