Description

This postcard features the reconstructed William Clary Grocery in New Salem State Park near Petersburg, Illinois. William Clary built the original store sometime in 1830 about five miles west of the village of New Salem. It was there when Abraham Lincoln lived in New Salem from 1831 to 1837. The view shows the Offut Store in the background. The image is surrounded with a light colored border with the caption printed on the lower margin. The postcard reverse is divided in half vertically with narrative text printed on the left side. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
