Description

This postcard is a photograph of the interior of the reconstructed cabin of Peter Lukin and Alexander Ferguson in New Salem State Park near Petersburg, Illinois. Peter Lukin built the original cabin in 1831 and then moved two miles north of New Salem in 1832 to found Petersburg, Illinois. About the time Lukin moved out of the cabin, Alexander Ferguson, cobbler and shoemaker, arrived and moved into the cabin. He used the lean-to as his shop. The caption is printed along the bottom edge of the image with the number D-241 printed in the lower right corner. The reverse is divided vertically with the right side labeled "Address."
