Description

This postcard features the interior of the Lincoln Monument located in Oak Ridge Cemetery in Springfield, Illinois. President Lincoln's grave is marked by the red marble grave marker in the center surrounded by flags of the states in which generations of Lincolns have lived. Near the top of the wall directly behind the grave marker are the words attributed to Secretary of War Edwin Stanton at the time of Lincoln's passing, "Now he belongs to the ages." In the opposite wall are crypts for Lincoln's wife and three of his four sons. The caption and the number D-407 are printed along the bottom edge of the image. The postcard reverse is divided.
