Description

This postcard is a color photograph of the reconstructed Rutledge Tavern located in New Salem State Park near Petersburg, Illinois. This view taken facing a front corner of the building shows the lean-to built onto the back of the cabin. A split-log bench is in the yard. The chimney in full view is being covered by a climbing foliage. Another smaller building can be seen in the background to the viewer's right. The postcard reverse is divided vertically with narrative text printed on the left side. The number P5726 is printed along the top edge near the middle. Abraham Lincoln lived in the original village of New Salem from 1831 ot 1837 and boarded at the Rutledge Tavern part of the time.
