Description

This color postcard is a reproduction of a painting of Abraham Lincoln done by artist Thomas Hicks in June of 1860 from life and after a photograph taken of Lincoln in Chicago on February 28, 1857. This was the first oil portrait done of him just after his nomination as the Republican Party presidential candidate in May of 1860. The original painting is in the collection of the Chicago Historical Society in Illinois. The postcard reverse is divided and has narrative text printed on the left side.
