Description

This postcard features a reproduction of an original 1893 painting by J. E. Taylor titled "The Broken Shackles." An African American man with broken shackles on his wrists is appealing to President Abraham Lincoln to fight for his country. President Lincoln is depicted standing beside a huge American flag while holding his hat in his right hand. A battle can be seen going on in the background. The postcard reverse is divided.
