This color postcard is a reproduction of the painting by Louis Mathieu Didier Guillaume depicting the surrender of Confederate General Robert E. Lee to Union General Ulysses S. Grant on April 9, 1865, at the McLean House located at Appomattox, Virginia, The painting is on display in the museum at the Appomattox court House National Historical Park in Virginia. The postcard reverse is divided. Brief narrative text is printed on the left side. The number S-60199-1 is printed along the bottom edge near the middle.
