Being the first statue to be done of Mrs. Lincoln, the couple is depicted as they might have looked if they had posed together for a photograph in 1861 before an event. Mrs. Lincoln is shown in a formal dress standing beside Mr. Lincoln who is seated with her left hand resting on his right arm. The image is surrounded by a white border with the caption printed in the top margin. The number 4B-H1198 is printed in the lower right corner of the border. The postcard reverse is divided. Narrative text is printed on the left side. A handwritten note in blue ink from Sadaviae Gaddin to Bert Sheldon of Washington, D. C., is also on the left side. The Elkins, West Virginia, postmark is dated January 21, 1946. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
