Description

This postcard shows the bend in the Sangamon River where the New Salem mill and dam were located in the 1830s while Abraham Lincoln resided in New Salem, Illinois. A handwritten note on the reverse states "No. 12 View of River from [Old Salem] State Park showing dam which prevented Lincoln from going down the river further [with the flatboat]."
