Description
This postcard is a color photograph of the interior of the reconstructed cabin of Peter Lukin in New Salem State Park near Petersburg, Illinois. Peter Lukin built the original cabin in 1831 and then moved two miles north of New Salem in 1832 to found Petersburg, Illinois. About the time Lukin moved out of the cabin, Alexander Ferguson, cobbler and shoemaker, arrived and moved into the cabin. He used the lean-to as his shop. A bed, table and chair, and china cabinet are a few of the items seen in the room. The reverse is divided vertically with narrative text printed on the left side.
