Printed form, 8 x 20 cm, filled in and signed by Bowling Green, J.P. instructing the constable of Sangamon county to recover from Jason Duncan the sum of twenty-one dollars and fifty cents debt and 91 cents costs for Nelson Alley. Docketed on verso with costs and signed by John Duncan as constable: 'Served on one black mare as the property of Jason Duncan to settle an exicutian in favour of Nelson Alley.' Jason Duncan gave Nelson Alley a promissory note for $21.57 but failed to make payment. Alley sued to recover the debt in Justice of the Peace court. Abraham Lincoln wrote the summons. Duncan failed to appear, and the Justice of the Peace ruled for Alley and awarded $21.57. Duncan then appealed the judgment to the circuit court. The resolution of the appeal is not known.
