Handwritten affidavit, 15 x 20 cm, from George Close, George Carpenter, Tilman Hornbuckle, Levi Summers, Harlan Bale, John Ritter, and sworn before C.R. Matheny, Clerk. '... being sworn saith that he attended four days as a witness in the above cause at request of defendant.' Docketed on verso. Jacob Bale failed to pay Pollard Simmons $80 on an account. Simmons sued Bale in the Justice of the Peace court to recover the debt but the jury found for Bale. Simmons appealed the judgment to the circuit court. The court subpoenaed Lincoln as a witness for Bale. The case was later dismissed.
