- Letter, 24.5 cm, written while Chase was Governor of Ohio, addressing a number of personal matters, including the death of Goldsborough's mother (Elizabeth Wirt), railroad travel, the possibility of Chase visiting Annapolis, and Chase's having met their old mutual friend, Thomas Swann, now Mayor of Baltimore. Includes envelope, 8 x 14 cm, addressed and stamped ""Columbus O., June 15."" Mrs. Goldsborough was the daughter of William Wirt, Attorney General of the United States and mentor to Chase.
