- Letter, 25 cm, stating that ""we do not fear Great Britain & France"" because the cost of war is higher than the profits from trading in cotton and ""they manifest every definite respect for the blockade."" Chase notes the unlikelihood of a commission in the service for Tom (probably Thomas Worthington, brother of James Worthington) unless he ""enlists as private & takes his chance to be second Lieut"" as Byron Kirby did.
