Harrisburg, Mar. 15/61 His Excellency, the President: My friend, W. P. Sawyer, of Pittsburgh, is an applicant for Marshal of the District of Columbia. Mr. Sawyer is a sterling, hard working Republican, and his appointment to this place would afford me much pleasure. He possesses ability, integrity and capacity of a high order, and I have no doubt his appointment would give general satisfaction. Very Respectfully Yours &c Russell Errett
