Writ of Fieri Facias in James P. Hawthorn vs. David Wooldridge (trespass vi et armis)

Description:
Printed form, 31 cm, filled in and signed by William Butler, clerk (Stephen L. Logan, judge), ordering the sheriff of Sangamon County to recover the costs of the suit. Docketed on verso: 'James P. Hawthorn vs David Wooldridge: Fi. Fa,' with costs, 'Nothing made on this execution to be renewed' and signed G. Elkins, sheriff. Wooldridge assaulted Hawthorn by beating and kicking him. As a result, Hawthorn was incapacitated for six weeks and was unable to transact any business. Hawthorn sued Wooldridge in an action of trespass vi et armis and requested $500 in damages. Wooldridge retained Stuart and Lincoln and pleaded not guilty. The jury found for Hawthorn and awarded $36 in damages.
