Writ of Fieri Facias in James P. Hawthorn vs. David Wooldridge (trespass vi et armis)

Description:
Printed form, 33 cm, filled in and signed by William Butler, ordering the sheriff of Sangamon County to recover the costs of the suit. Docketed on verso: 'James P. Hawthorn vs David Wooldridge: Fi. Fa,' with costs, 'Satisfied' and signed G. Elkins, sheriff. Wooldridge assaulted Hawthorn by beating and kicking him. As a result, Hawthorn was incapacitated for six weeks and was unable to transact any business. Hawthorn sued Wooldridge in an action of trespass vi et armis and requested $500 in damages. Wooldridge retained Stuart and Lincoln and pleaded not guilty. The jury found for Hawthorn and awarded $36 in damages.
