- Letter, 25 cm, that the Whigs have been defeated in Indiana and "locofocoism has inundated" the state, with details of votes by county, and blames John Tyler's "half way position about a bank" for causing former Whigs to lose confidence in the party. Smydth also asks that Thompson recommend Terry for a clerkship in the General Land Office. Addressed on verso to Thompson in Washington D.C. and postmarked Washington Ind.
