- Letter, 26 cm, written by Schuyler Colfax (headed 'House of Rep.') requesting that McClellan remove the 9th Indiana Regiment and General Milroy from Cheat Mountain Summit 'to some region where they can see an enemy.' On the reverse side of the document Abraham Lincoln has written 'I would be very glad for Mr. Colfax to be obliged in the matter within if at all consistent with public service' and dated Dec. 13, 1861. Docketing on reverse in third hand with date of receipt from AGO noted (December 17, 1861).
