- Letter, 26 cm, handwritten on House of Representatives letterhead stationery, signed by seven Congressmen from Missouri: James S. Rollins, E.H. Horton, Thomas L. Price, R. Wilson, William A. Hall, John W. Noell, J.B. Henderson. The letter recommends the appointment of Major Thomas E. Noell as 'a Major in one of the new Regiments of the Regular Army.' Includes a recommendation by H.R. Gamble, governor of Missouri signed and dated Jan. 27, 1862 in Washington. Lincoln has written and signed an endorsement dated Feb. 1, 1862: 'Respectfully submitted to the War Department, with the remark that, while I know not if there be a vacant Majority, I shall be quite willing the applicant within recommended shall have it, especially as it is said Missouri has had no appointments in the new Regular Army.'
