- Handwritten affidavit, 15 x 19 cm, signed by Jesse Baker, sworn to and subscribed Bowling Green, J.P. on April 24, 1833. Docketed on verso 'John Close vs John Ritter, Jesse Baker affidavit.' John Close first sued John Ritter in the Justice of the Peace court to recover a $73 debt. The jury found for Close and awarded him $73. Ritter then appealed the judgment to the Sangamon County Circuit Court. Abraham Lincoln was called to testify as a witness on Ritter's behalf. The court affirmed the judgment in favor of Close but reduced the award to $35.
