- Description:
- Letter, 25 cm, asking ""why in God's name dont some of you leading men make some effort to stop the war"" as the south cannot be coerced and thousands of lives will be lost in the struggle, stating that all attempts to abolish slavery will take down all races. Jeff Thompson's proposed plan of retaliation would remove or kill any black men suspected of joining the Northern forces; he avows that he has not ""deviated from the strict rules of Civilized Warfare"" but would ""be in favour of cold blooded murder or anything else to rid the country of invaders."" M. Jeff Thompson was a Confederate General and cousin to Richard W. Thompson.
