Description

This 19 mm bronze Indian head penny features Liberty wearing an Indian headdress as the central image on the obverse. The image is surrounded with the inscription "United States of America." The date 1865 is inscribed below the image. The reverse features the words "One Cent" inscribed within an oak-leaf open wreath. A small United States Shield is in the opening at the top of the wreath. This coin is one of sixteen different coins that were minted and placed into circulation during the administration of President Abraham Lincoln.
