Description
This is a en engraving on a page from Vanity Fair. It features Jefferson Davis, portrayed as a young child, sitting on the ground, appearing to have fallen and in the process spilling a large basket of fruit. Apples litter the ground around him. His face appears distraught and helpless and he reaches up his left hand as if to call for someone's attention. Each piece of fallen fruit bears the name of a Confederate state. Davis is sitting on a line drawn in the ground that is labeled "Confederacy". "Vanity Fair" is printed in the upper margin and the title in the lower margin. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
