Description

In 2002, branches were cut from the Old Copper Beech tree standing in front of Anderson Cottage in Washington, D.C., where President Abraham Lincoln's family lived during the hot Washington, D.C., summers, and segments were sent to various Lincoln museums and sites. This is one of the segments. The ancient huge tree was nearing the end of its life so its saplings were transplanted to the grounds of the U. S. Capitol, the White House grounds, and to other major historic Lincoln sites. President Lincoln is said to have sat, read, written, and played with his son Tad in the cooling shade of this tree.
