Description

Round brass 1860 campaign ferrotype features a centered tintype portrait of Abraham Lincoln who wears a dark jacket, bow tie, and white shirt. The portrait is surrounded by raised braided trim. The subject's name, date, and chains of roses are embossed around the portrait. Raised braided trim encircles the button. The top is pierced with a hole. The reverse is identical except it features a tintype portrait of Hannibal Hamlin. His name, the date, and chains of roses are embossed around the portrait. The button is framed within two pieces of white cardboard and cellaphane and stapled to a notecard. "V.O-14 #263" is handwritten at the top of the frame in blue ink. "From Lucile's grandfather, Francis A. Vandboort (wounded at Shiloh)" is handwritten in black ink below." 71.2009.082.0392 is mounted on the same notecard.
