Description

Ornate double-sided folding fan features hammered gilt metal sticks and guards adorned with eagles and openwork and eight-pointed stars at the tips. A multi-colored lithograph unfurls across the top of the sticks and depicts a portrait of President Abraham Lincoln framed by angels and cherubs, two obelisks, and sheet music for "Cancion A Abraham Lincoln." Nine albumen photographs of Union officers are pasted inside oval niches at the midpoint of the sticks. On the reverse of the fan, the multi-colored lithograph across the top features scenes from "Our American Cousin," the assassination of President Lincoln, the capture of John Wilkes Booth, and on each end two battle scenes showing the naval battle between the Monitor and the Merrimac of March 10, 1862, and the battle at Richmond on April 3, 1865. Nine engravings of Union officers are pasted inside oval niches at the midpoint of the sticks. A crimped gilt loop is attached to the rivet that is surrounded by mother of pearl.
