Description

Piece of white silk with an ovular, three-quarter profile of Abraham Lincoln embroidered in the center in gold thread. There are stars embroidered around the portrait. On the top of the oval is a banner that reads "With Charity to all, and malice for none" in gold lettering. On top of the banner is a gold bird holding a leafy branch in its beak. Below, a woman is seated and holds her head in her hand, covering her face with her dress. On either side of her are American flags and leaves. The woman and the flags are gold in color, and the leaves are a brighter shade of gold. Below the woman is a red, white, and blue shield with a banner across it. The banner reads, "1776 Union Forever 1865" in gold lettering. "A. Lincoln. " is written across the bottom in gold lettering. "Switzerland 1866" is written very small on the right side near the bottom of the oval. The fabric is stored in a mylar sleeve.
