Description
a. This is a sword made out of metal. The sword is slightly curved and comes to a point at the end. The hilt of the sword consists of a crossguard and a pommel, which are made out of metal, that are connected by a decorative curved metal strip. The grip of the hilt is made out of black leather and has thin metal wire wrapped loosely around it in a spiral. The maker's mark "PDL" within an oval cartouche is on the blade near the hilt. It is the mark for the German maker Peter D. Luneschloss who made swords for Tiffany & Company during the Civil War. b. This is the metal scabbard case for the sword. This scabbard is curved to fit the sword. There are two rings attached to the scabbard as well. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
