Description

Abraham Lincoln's lock of hair encased in a black octagonal gutta-percha daguerreotype case. The case features a raised floral and scrollwork motif with a gold oval in the center embossed with a leaf design. The case opens on two hinges. One side of the case is fitted with a swatch of purple crushed velvet with a cut acorn and scrollwork design. The other side features a lock of brown hair tied in a circle with a fine thread and backed by white cloth or paper. The hair is pressed behind a gilt oval frame hammered with an intricate floral and scrollwork design. This lock of hair was found pressed in scrapbook 71.2009.082.0014b.
