Description
Folding fan features white ostrich feathers attached to the bone sticks and guards that are carved with scrollwork. A metal loop is attached to the rivet that is surrounded by bone. "Mary Todd Lincoln" and "Belleview Batavia Ills." are handwritten in pencil on the reverse side of the sticks. This fan is said to have belonged to Mary Todd Lincoln during her time at the Bellview Asylum after having been declared to be insane.
