Description

Cream silk woven commemorative Lincoln mourning ribbon. Top edge of ribbon has black text that reads, "Assassinated At Washington 14 April 1865. I have said nothing but what I am willing to live by and if it be the pleasure of almighty God to die by. (A. Lincoln)." The remainder of the ribbon consists of a very elaborate image of Lincoln done in black, white, blue and gold thread. The main black and white central image of Lincoln is placed in an oval shape that is framed by a gold thread border that has white stars. That border is then framed with elaborate black and white scroll work. At the top of the portrait oval there is a shield done is gold, white and blue thread of the stars and stripes from the US flag. An eagle with its wings spanned sits on the top edge of the shield. The lower quarter of the ribbon has a background of gold thread vines that surround the black lettered text that reads, "The Late Lamented President." Lincoln's name is in blue thread above two US flags that make up the bottom edge of the ribbon. That triangular bottom edge has three attached silk thread tassels.
