Description
Abraham Lincoln mourning ribbon features a white silk field embroidered with an image of the President with a beard and wearing a dark suit, bow tie, and white shirt in the center. Lincoln is surrounded by a magenta oval frame with stars. An eagle with spread wings perches on a magenta, white, and blue shield at the top of the frame. A magenta and blue grapevine is embroidered across the top of the ribbon. "Assassinated at Washington, 14 April 1865; I have said nothing but what I am willing to live by, and if it be the pleasure of almighty God, to die by. (A. Lincoln)" is embroidered below the grapevine. "The Late Lamented President Lincoln" is embroidered in black and blue silk thread at the bottom of the ribbon. This text is surrounded by magenta flowers and scrollwork and is above two American flags. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
