Description
This folder is the program for the ceremony commemorating the 99th anniversary of Abraham Lincoln's address at The Cooper Union, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln coinciding with the issuance of a 3-cent stamp, and the 100th anniversary of the founding of The Cooper Union in 1859. An illustration on the bottom half of the front cover depicts Lincoln speaking in the Great Hall of The Cooper Union on February 27, 1860. On the reverse of the front cover a 3-cent Lincoln postage stamp is pasted in the center of the page with a first day of issue stamp and the postmark reading "New York, N. Y., Feb. 27, 1959, 9:00 A.M." A quotation from Lincoln's Cooper Union Address is printed above the stamp. A quotation from a letter by Peter Cooper is printed below the stamp. The order of the program is printed on the opposite page. On the back of the folder is text describing the four stamps issued to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the birth of Abraham Lincoln.
