Description

A black vinyl binder contains four pages of text by Theodore Charrney describing main events from the time of President Abraham Lincoln's assassination on April 14, 1865, through the burial on May 4, 1865, followed by eleven leaves with two commemorative cacheted covers on one side of each leaf. Each 3-5/8 inch by 6-1/2 inch cacheted cover has a location, the day, and the 1865 date in the upper left corner with a title just below. Beneath the title is an illustration relating to the events of that particular day with brief explanatory text below. The center portion of each cover has a postmark from the post office of the specific event location as well as the date of the anniversary one hundred years later. One or more Lincoln-related stamps are found in the upper right corner of each cover. A quotation from a mourner is printed in the lower right corner.
