Description

Set of twenty-four 39 mm medallions produced in .999 silver and oxodized bronze featuring illustrations of events in the life of President Abraham Lincoln housed in two finished medal holders (a & b) with gilt lettering. The reverse of each medallion repeats the title at the top and has a Lincoln quotation below the title with olive branches below that. The original drawings of the illustrations done by Lloyd Ostendorf are reproduced in the accompanying book titled "Abraham Lincoln: An Autobiographical Narrative" (c) published by The Schori Press of Evanston, Illinois. Each chapter has a drawing with the same title given to the medallion featuring the illustration with text taken from Lincoln's own autobiographical sketches along with the author's explanatory text. The colophon notes that this is number 386 of 600 copies and the Life of Lincoln series number 10016. The medal holders fit into a slip case which fits into a larger matching slip case along with the accompanying book. The book is labeled as Volume I with the medal holders slip case labeled as Volume II. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
