Description
Wooden folding chair features crossed legs that collapse or expand and are supported by horizontal braces at the top and midway down the leg. A blue and white striped cotton fabric seat is suspended across the top braces and tacked down with nail heads. The back of the chair folds open and is supported by cords attached to the top of the leg. "Patented Jan. 27, 1891" is stamped in black ink on the seat of the chair. John G. Nicolay was one of Abraham Lincoln's private secretaries throughout his White House years. Nicolay traveled and camped in the western territories when Lincoln asked him to assist with the negotiation of treaties with Native Americans .
