Description

a) Set of 40 sterling silver medals commemorating the First Ladies of the United States from Martha Washington, 1789-1797, chronologically through to Patricia Nixon, 1969-1974. Each medal, 39 mm in size, features a portrait of the First Lady with her name above and her dates of years in the White House below. The reverse of each medal has an engraving of the White House at the top with the First Lady's name in script and her birth and death dates below. Beneath the dates is a statement about the First Lady or her years in the White House. The book contains four leaves, each one having 10 medals in covered with Mylar so that both sides can be seen. b) Certificate of Authencity certifying that the set is a First Edition Proof Set issued under the authority of the White House Historical Association. c) A reference booklet titled "First Ladies of the White House," adapted from the book of the same title by Gertrude Zeth Brooks, published in 1969, to accompany the medallic series. See Lincoln Lore issue number 1617, November 1972, page 4, for more information on the First Ladies Commemorative Medals set.
