Description

Abraham Lincoln 1860 presidential campaign pin features an ambrotype of a clean-shaven Lincoln sitting in three-quarter profile and wearing a dark suit, bow tie, and white shirt. The image is encased in an ovular gilt metal frame with ornate scrollwork. The frame is mounted on a circular piece of canvas trimmed with two rows of pleated ruffles. The maker's name and location are available on the reverse of the ambrotype, but they are difficult to access because of the fragile nature of the silk. The original of this photograph was taken on February 27, 1860, when Lincoln was in New York City to speak at the Cooper Union Institute the same day.
