Description

This print is a playbill for the Pulitzer Prize winning play "Abe Lincoln in Illinois" written by Robert E. Sherwood in 1939 and performed by the Phoenix Theatre Company at the Anderson Theatre in New York City in 1963. The play chronicles the life of Abraham Lincoln during his years living in Illinois in the early 1830s to early 1861. Eleven testimonials to the quality of the performance are listed on the left half of the playbill. The title, the name of the actor playing Lincoln, Hal Holbrook, the production staff members, and the ticket prices are listed on the right half of the playbill. Performance times and information for obtaining tickets are at the bottom of the playbill. Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
