Description

This is a group of three political cartoons, all featuring President Abraham Lincoln, mounted on poster board. The three cartoons are all the same size, but are composed by different artists, and may or may not have been printed in the same publication. The first (top) cartoon is titled "Give Heed." It features Lincoln, standing very tall and drawn as if he were in motion, walking past a miniature policeman who guards a locked ballot box. There is a quote in the upper proper right corner, "Those who deny freedom to others, deserve not it themselves, and under God cannot long retain it." This cartoon is signed "Karl Hubenthal". The second (middle) cartoon is titled "He Never Lost the Common Touch". It features a stylized drawing of Abraham Lincoln drawn almost in silhouette and recognizable only for his height and his signature suit and hat, reaching out his hand to a young child who also reaches out to him. This cartoon is signed "Yoss." The third (bottom) cartoon is titled "And Growing Larger All the Time". It depicts Abraham Lincoln standing up in an unidentifiable background. He wears his typical suit with a long coat. Lincoln is so tall that the top of his head is actually cut off by the top margin of the cartoon. Written across the center is "Ideals of 100 Years of History." This cartoon is signed "Morris". Part of the Lincoln Financial Foundation Collection, courtesy of the Indiana State Museum
