Description

This is an original sketch of a political cartoon. The cartoon features Abraham Lincoln, depicted from the waist up, holding a miniature version of the Capitol Building in his hands. The building is cracking and spilt ting directly down the middle. Above the building are two birds who appear to be fighting and squawking at one another. One bird is white, and the other one is dark. The white bird is a bit smaller and seems more benevolent. The darker bird is larger and more threatening. The year of production, 1968, is handwritten in blue pencil in the bottom proper left corner. The title, also in blue pencil appears in the top margin. The title has actually been written twice, one line on top of the other, and the upper version has been crossed out. The artist signed the cartoon with his name and the year in which it was made in the folds of Lincoln's sleeve. "544" is handwritten in pencil in the top proper left corner. "OC Cut Card Made 11/85" is handwritten in pencil on the reverse side in the bottom proper left corner.
