Description

This engraving, done from a painting by Alonzo Chapppel, features a portrait of William H. Seward, the United States Secretary of State from March 6, 1861, to March 4, 1869. He is depicted seated with his left hand resting on top of a document on the table and with his right leg crossed over his left leg. Papers are depicted scattered on the floor around him.
